What is included
Interior and exterior painting by our own painters, with surfaces properly prepared, furniture fully protected and wet film thickness checked on every coat. A good paint finish is mostly preparation. Dubai walls move with heat, hairline cracks open at ceiling joints, and coastal air and irrigation mark exterior walls within a few seasons. We repair and prime before we paint, apply the system named in your quotation and leave the home clean enough to move straight back into.
- Paint code looked for on old tins, handover files or records
- Sample chip cut from a hidden spot where no code exists
- Tinted trial pot brushed out as patches and left to dry
- Sheen matched as well as colour before the order is placed
How we carry out paint colour matching
The easiest match comes from a code, so we look first for an old tin, a handover file or a community colour schedule. Without one, a chip about the size of a coin is cut from a hidden spot, such as behind a switch plate or a downpipe, and read by a spectrophotometer at the paint supplier. A small trial pot is tinted and brushed out on the wall in two coats beside the old paint. It is judged only when dry, in daylight and from across the room or garden, and the tint is adjusted until it sits right.
Paint on a wall is never the colour it was in the tin. Sun fades exterior walls in Dubai within a couple of years, the west face faster than the rest, and indoor walls yellow slightly and collect a film of dust. A perfect code match can therefore look too fresh against its surroundings. An exact match to an aged wall cannot be promised, which is why a repair is normally taken across the full wall from corner to corner. At the site visit we look at the age and exposure of the surface and where a natural break falls.
How it works
The same method on every job, so the result does not depend on who is on shift.
- Survey, colour and written scope. We measure, test the existing coating and agree colours, sheen and the number of coats. The written quotation names the paint system and the scope.
- Protection. Furniture is moved and wrapped, floors are covered edge to edge, and switches, handles and light fittings are masked or removed.
- Surface preparation. Walls are washed, flaking paint is scraped back, cracks are opened and filled, and everything is sanded flat. Damp or salt affected areas are treated before any paint goes on.
- Primer and finish coats. A sealer or primer suited to the substrate is followed by two finish coats. Wet film thickness is checked on every coat.
- Snagging and handover. We inspect in daylight with you, touch up, clean down and hand over a paint schedule listing brand, colour codes and batch numbers for future touch ups.

Questions about paint colour matching
What does paint colour matching include?
Colour matching identifies an existing paint from its code or a physical sample, then proves the match with test patches on the wall, viewed dry and in daylight. The work includes paint code looked for on old tins, handover files or records; sample chip cut from a hidden spot where no code exists; tinted trial pot brushed out as patches and left to dry.
Can you match my wall colour without the original code?
Yes, from a physical sample. A small chip of the existing paint is scanned and a trial pot is mixed from the reading, then tested on your wall. The closer the sample is to the area being painted, the better, since different walls fade at different rates.
Why does the matched paint still look slightly different?
Three things cause it: the old wall has faded or yellowed, the sheen is not identical, or the new paint was applied with a different tool. Colour also shifts as paint dries. That is why we test patches first and usually repaint a whole wall, not a square in the middle.
How much does paint colour matching cost in Dubai?
We do not publish prices, because no two jobs are the same. The main factors: wall and ceiling area and ceiling height; condition of the surface and how much repair is needed. Book a site visit: a supervisor from The MELLS looks at the work and you receive a written quotation with a defined scope before anything begins.
Who provides paint colour matching in Dubai?
The MELLS provides paint colour matching in Dubai. The work is carried out by people The MELLS employs directly, under a named supervisor, 08:00 to 19:00, Monday to Saturday. To arrange it, book a site visit on this page or call +971 55 444 0084.
How long does paint colour matching take?
Usually one to three days, confirmed with the quotation.
Which paint brands do you use?
We apply the paint system named in your quotation. Most clients choose premium washable emulsions from the major brands stocked in Dubai, and we are happy to work with paints specified by your designer.
How do you protect furniture and floors?
Furniture is moved to the centre of the room and wrapped. Floors are covered edge to edge, and fittings are masked or removed. The crew cleans down every day.
Do you repair cracks and damp patches before painting?
Yes. Cracks are opened, filled and sanded, and damp or salt affected plaster is treated and sealed first. Painting over a defect only hides it for a few months.
How long before the paint is fully dry?
Water based emulsion is touch dry in about an hour and can be recoated in around four hours. It reaches full hardness over two to four weeks, so avoid scrubbing new walls in that time.
Do we need to move out while you paint?
No. We work room by room with low odour water based paints, and bedrooms are usable again the same night.
How many coats do you apply?
A primer or sealer where the surface needs it, then two finish coats. Strong colour changes may need a third coat, which is stated in the quotation.
How do I choose a company for paint colour matching in Dubai?
Ask four things: who employs the people who will come, whether the scope is written down before work starts, how the result is checked, and what happens if something is missed. The MELLS uses its own staff, quotes in writing after a site visit, checks every job (wet film thickness checked on every coat and an adhesion test at handover) and puts right any failed check free of charge within 48 hours.
How do I prepare for paint colour matching?
Remove pictures, small items and valuables from the rooms. Floors and furniture are covered by the crew, and larger pieces are moved where the scope says so.
Do I need to provide any products or equipment?
No. Products, tools and machines come with the crew. Any materials the job needs, such as paint or parts, are listed in the written quotation.
What if I am not happy with the result?
Tell the supervisor at handover or call us. Anything that fails our check is put right free of charge within 48 hours.
