What is included
Light fixing and lighting installation for homes, offices and shops, from one replaced fitting to downlights, LED strip, pendants and outdoor lights. Most lighting faults in Abu Dhabi trace back to a fitting screwed into gypsum board alone, a driver with no headroom, or a joint that humidity has reached. Our own technicians isolate the circuit at the distribution board, prove it dead with a tester and work to the manufacturer's instructions. Any approval the building or the community asks for is identified at the site visit, and we prepare the paperwork.
- Positions marked from the room centre and checked against joists
- Holes cut with a hole saw sized to the fitting cut out
- Clearance above each fitting measured in the ceiling void
- Drivers left beside the opening so they can be changed later
How we carry out spotlight and downlight installation
Setting out comes first. Positions are marked from the centre line of the room so the rows sit square to the walls, then the void is probed for joists, ducts and pipes before any hole is cut. A hole saw matched to the cut out size leaves a clean edge that the spring clips can grip. Cable is looped from point to point, each driver is connected and laid beside its opening, and the fitting is pushed home only after it has been lit and checked.
A hole cut a few millimetres too wide cannot be put back, and the fitting then sags or drops out of the board. Downlights buried under insulation or pressed against an AC duct overheat and their drivers fail early, which in a Abu Dhabi summer happens fast. Drivers pushed far into the void mean cutting the ceiling open to change one. The site visit measures the void depth, finds what runs above the ceiling and agrees the number and spacing of lights for the room.
How it works
The same method on every job, so the result does not depend on who is on shift.
- Survey and diagnosis. A technician inspects the system or surface, takes readings and photographs, and explains what was found in plain language.
- Written quotation. You receive a written quotation against a defined scope before any work starts. Anything outside that scope is quoted separately.
- Protected, supervised work. The work area is protected and isolated, and the job is carried out by our own technicians under a named supervisor.
- Testing. Every job ends with a measured test suited to the discipline, so the result is a reading and a photograph and not an opinion.
- Report and warranty. The completed report reaches you within the hour. Any failed point is put right free of charge within 48 hours.

Spotlight and Downlight Installation in Embassies District: what we plan for
The Embassies District, also known as Al Safarat or the Diplomatic Area, lies off Sheikh Rashid Bin Saeed Street towards Al Bateen Executive Airport. Most plots hold embassy buildings and diplomatic residences behind high walls, alongside low and mid rise apartment buildings, with the Rawdhat apartment blocks along the Airport Road side.
Wide roads and open plots let fine sand blow into gardens and across terraces. Embassy buildings and residences often have large stone or tiled entrance areas that show every footprint, and irrigation leaves mineral marks on boundary walls. Residences here usually run ducted AC, pumps and backup water storage. Servicing follows a schedule agreed with the facilities manager, and anything outside our scope is reported to them.
Access to embassy premises and diplomatic residences follows the site's own security procedure, confirmed at the site visit, and staff details are sent in advance for clearance. Apartment buildings need a work permit and a service lift booking, and we prepare the paperwork asked for.

Questions about spotlight and downlight installation in Embassies District
What does spotlight and downlight installation include?
Spotlights and downlights are set out on the ceiling, cut in with a hole saw to the exact cut out size and wired to drivers that stay within reach. The work includes positions marked from the room centre and checked against joists; holes cut with a hole saw sized to the fitting cut out; clearance above each fitting measured in the ceiling void.
How many downlights does a room need?
That depends on the ceiling height, the beam angle and the output of the fitting, so there is no fixed number. We start with even spacing, keep the outer row far enough off the walls to avoid scalloped shadows, and adjust at the site visit.
Can downlights go into a concrete ceiling?
Not recessed, unless a false ceiling is added below the slab. On bare concrete the options are surface mounted spotlights or track, with the cable run in trunking or conduit. Both are looked at during the site visit.
How much does spotlight and downlight installation cost in Embassies District?
We do not publish prices, because no two jobs are the same. The main factors: size and type of the system or surface; present condition and ease of access. Book a site visit: a supervisor from The MELLS looks at the work and you receive a written quotation with a defined scope before anything begins.
Who provides spotlight and downlight installation in Embassies District?
The MELLS provides spotlight and downlight installation in Embassies District, Abu Dhabi. The work is carried out by people The MELLS employs directly, under a named supervisor, 08:00 to 19:00, Monday to Saturday. To arrange it, book a site visit on this page or call +971 55 444 0084.
How long does spotlight and downlight installation take?
Typically 1 to 3 hours for a few fittings, longer for whole rooms. The time for your property is confirmed with the quotation.
Why do my LED lights flicker?
Four causes account for most flicker: a failing driver, a dimmer that does not suit the lamp, a loose neutral, or a transformer carrying more than it should. We test for them in turn instead of swapping lamps at random, and show you what we found.
Can a heavy chandelier hang from a gypsum ceiling?
Not from the board itself. The weight has to go to the slab or a joist through a fixing rated for the load, with the gypsum only covering it. We open a small access above the position, set the anchor and close the ceiling around the rose.
Is a permit needed for lighting work in a tower or mall in Embassies District?
Towers and malls normally ask for a work permit, and a retail unit has to follow the landlord fit out guide. We identify what applies at the site visit and prepare the paperwork the building or the landlord asks for.
How do your crews get access to Embassies District?
Access to embassy premises and diplomatic residences follows the site's own security procedure, confirmed at the site visit, and staff details are sent in advance for clearance. Apartment buildings need a work permit and a service lift booking, and we prepare the paperwork asked for.
Do you clean diplomatic residences between postings?
Yes. A handover clean covers the whole house, from AC grilles and kitchen extractors to wardrobes and outdoor areas, with the scope agreed with the house or facilities manager at the site visit.
How do I choose a company for spotlight and downlight installation in Embassies District?
Ask four things: who employs the people who will come, whether the scope is written down before work starts, how the result is checked, and what happens if something is missed. The MELLS uses its own staff, quotes in writing after a site visit, checks every job (a measured test for every job, with photographs before and after) and puts right any failed check free of charge within 48 hours.
How are visits to Embassies District arranged?
Visits in Abu Dhabi are booked by appointment between 08:00 and 19:00, Monday to Saturday. Call or send the form and we agree the earliest time a supervisor can come to you.
